What Helps Stop My Anxiety Before It Starts?

Laughter 

When I laugh, I am in the moment. It’s an uncontrollable feeling that flows through my body.

Often times with anxiety, I am thinking about the past or the future, but laughter puts me in the present. 

The more I realize laughter helps my anxiety (especially if I feel my anxiety about to come on), the more I try to find humor.

Here are 5 things that make me laugh:  

  1. My husband. Can you tell from the photo above? :) I don’t think I’ve ever seen myself laugh like that before.

  2. PIGS! I love pigs. They make me smile and laugh. When I feel anxiety coming on, I will turn on a funny pig video on Youtube. If I can’t find a funny pig video, I’ll search for a funny dog or cat video. Those work just as well.

  3. Netflix stand-up specials. A few of my favorites: Ali Wong and John Mulaney’s stand-up specials.

  4. The random shit that happens to me during the day. Even when something super irritating happens, or I get a little road rage - I’ll find something funny about it, and just laugh. As a result, humor lessens my anxious charge towards the situation.

  5. My cats. I have two cats, Ramsay and Mufasa, and they are hilarious.
